Finnish Carelian stew
(Karjalanpaisti)

400 g pork (boneless)
400 g steak
butter or oil
10 whole dried black peppers
2 bay leaves
salt to taste
water

Brown meat in butter or oil. Place in oven-proof pot. Add spice.
Add enough water to cover meat. Simmer in 150 C oven for a couple
of hours. Stir occasionally. Done when meat is tender.

This dish can survive in the oven for hours if you make sure it
does not dry.

Serve with mashed potatoes and carrots:

Grate 4 carrots (coarse), add crushed lingonberries or cranberries.
