Stuffed Cabbage
1/2 cup rice, cooked 2 onions 3 ribs celery 1 1/2 lb hamburger 1 tbsp catsup 1 1/2 tsp salt and pepper dash pepper 1 egg 1 can tomatoes 1 jar sauerkraut 1 head cabbage 1/2 cup water
Bring water to boil. Put in cabbage; turn down heat to low. Leave cabbage in water to wilt. Cook 1/2 cup rice. Mix meat, cooked rice, onion, celery, catsup, salt, pepper and egg plus one tomato and water. Roll meat mixture in cabbage leaves; fasten with toothpick.
Saute chopped onion in pot add rest of tomatoes; add to the chopped cabbage and sauerkraut. Put half of the vegetables in the bottom of the pot. Add 2 tbs raw rice, then cabbage rolls, cover with the remaining vegetables. If necessary add more water to cover 3/4 fill. Bring to the boil and reduce the heat and simmer for about 1 1/2 hours.
